Humanity is cursed.
People try to buy a Fast Pass to joy, but it’s often misinformed.
That fast new car loses its shine. The big house makes the family feel too distant. It rained during the big vacation and ruined your plans. The things you thought would bring you maximum joy disappoint.
Quality of life is a moving scale. We just… get used to it.
I suppose that’s the blessing and curse of being human. Things just normalize. Homeostasis. Nearly anything can just become “mid” (as the kids say).
Rich people get used to being rich, and lose touch with poverty.
Poor people get used to being poor, and despise wealth.
Even violence can become “normal”.
But you can break that curse…
Generosity is a superpower.
I was listening to My First Million, and inspired by the guest James Currier’s anecdotes about trying to “out-give” his business partner.
What a great way to break the “joy consumer” mentality.
(Give it a watch, it’s a good one)
You may not be able to buy true joy, but you can sure spread it! Being generous with your T’s (time, talent, and treasure) is a sure-fire way to spread joy.
As my grandfather used to say “money is like fertilizer, it doesn’t do any good unless you spread it around”.
It’s a very Midwestern way to say that, but you get the idea.
Generosity really can feel like a super power, and what is awesome is that you can wield it any time, any where, at your discretion.
