Muggles Don’t Get It

Harry Potter opened my eyes to this in my life

I used to think Harry Potter was childish.

Ok before you judge me, I’ve been reformed.

But yes, I really thought it was for little kids. But that’s because I had only seen the first movie, and I fell asleep through half of it. (Because it is a kids movie).

But I’ve seen the light.

Last year during the summer a local movie theater had a fun package deal: every Harry Potter movie, played every Sunday afternoon for 2 months, for a super discounted price. It ended up being around $2.50/movie. We jumped on it as a family.

It was fun to watch the series this way. Something to look forward to on a blazing hot lazy Sunday.

After the first few movies, it clicked:

I’m a wizard, not a muggle.

(if you haven’t seen the movies, “muggle” is slang for a non-wizard. A normie, if you will)

I’ve lived a large portion of my life creating new things, buying and selling businesses, and getting into all kinds of weird stuff that make my nine-to-five friends scratch their heads.

Muggles do not get it. And that’s ok.

But it also means I need to find my fellow wizards. I have been very fortunate to find a few regular meetups with fellow oddball types who are out blazing their own trails, and it is so refreshing. Wizards need wizards.

Have you found your people?

Onward and upward,
Simon Trask
