Powerball Dreams
The real benefit to playing the lottery may not be what you think

Big money, no whammy, STOP!
Week before last, the Powerball got up to an estimated $1.79 Billion (with a B).
That’s crazy.
There were two jackpot winners, who likely took home more like $200,000,000 each after the state commission and the tax man got theirs.
I’m a fan of math and generally don’t play the lottery.
However…
That B word got my imagination running.
We bought a $3 ticket when it was over $900 million.
Then we bought a handful of tickets when it was in the billions.
And nobody won, so they let it ride again…
Finally we rally some friends to create a lottery pool, and have a Powerball Party on the night that the two folks from Missouri and Texas took home the big prize.
I’ll say this: it was more fun losing money than I expected.
What I learned is that it was a $3 ticket to dream.
My wife had fun imagining what we would do with generational wealth. How that would impact our current situation. If we would stop working or not. How we would set up our foundation, and what causes could we fund.
I might even grab a ticket on our next date night, just for another excuse to dream together.
I’m still not a fan of the lottery. And it’s objectively, beyond a shadow of a doubt, a terrible place to put your money.
But it is a little fun once in a while.
